Our resident Primary School Teacher Recommends…..
A great children’s book is filled with wonderful illustrations and has a theme that delights children and adults alike. Children’s books use repeated phrases, rhyme, illustrations and textures to involve even the very young in the joy of reading. Let your child be enchanted by books and develop a sense of rhyme, word play and the fun of language through the shared reading experience.
We recommend authors such as Martin Waddell, Michael Rosen, Julia Donaldson and of course, our very own native of Skerries, Co. Dublin, Niamh Sharkey as some of the top producers of great children’s books. With fantastic titles, such as ‘The Ravenous Beast’, ‘The Pig in the Pond’ and ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ to choose from, a browse in our children’s corner is a must!

On reading….
A good story is the most important thing a book can have. When a reader is hooked on a story their reading ability improves. They read more fluently- because they want to read on! Children don’t need simple boring books in childish language- they need the best stories they can get. Funny stories, scary stories, real life drama, fascinating facts or thrilling adventure we have a selection of them here.
